Every Piece has a Story

All of humanity is a story. It is an epic tale filled with love and pain, laughter and sorrow, fear and beauty—all woven together and written into the very fabric of our being. Each artwork tells a unique story about what it means to be human, allowing us to place ourselves in the grand narrative. You’re invited to go deeper into these works and connect to the emotion that inspired their creation

Duality

Bronze, 2017

Duality represents a principle that is fundamental to art from all time periods and cultures—it is the timeless paradox that opposites exist in harmony and interdependence with one another. Light and dark, day and night, male and female: each principle is defined by its opposite, and when the two are seen in balance a state of harmony is achieved: we perceive a oneness that is transcendent. Richard MacDonald’s expression of this universal truth in Duality is communicated in a composition of power, subtlety, and grace. A peaceful serenity in the midst of complexity.

Yin & Yang, Column

Bronze, 2014

From opposite ends of the spectrum, the two figures are bound together by their differences and achieve harmony and balance together that would not be possible independently. The male figure is a concentrated study of strength and latent power, with his torso as the nexus of energy in the piece. The flowing and soft form of the female figure is a counterpoint to the tension in the male form, and the two are entwined in a way that calls to mind the links of a chain: two entities becoming one in balance and harmony.
