About The Artist
About The Artist
“The purpose of my work is to enrich your life with art by capturing every facet of the human experience.”
In his Monterey studio, Richard MacDonald has given himself an artistic space to create. As a true visionary, he has synthesized modernist principles with the timeless human desire to create imaginative metaphors of the human psyche through representation of the body. Whether as a public monument or treasured in private collections, each bronze by Richard MacDonald is part of an enduring legacy that brings figurative sculpture into the 21st century.

The Creation

Richard MacDonald, Spires Exhibition
“Life is short, Art is long"— Hippocrates, 5th BCE.
Art exists outside of the parameters of time—it flows and is not contained. Richard MacDonald brings 50 years of creative thinking to his current work. Five decades of fuel for an engine that has does not lose capacity as time goes on. Time adds dimension and character to artistic creation: it does not diminish, but rather it develops depth, with the passage of time.
It Takes a Village
Richard MacDonald works with live models from around the world to observe the energy, movement, and emotion that photography and film fails to capture.

The Foundry
With his own foundry for the pouring of molten bronze under the roof of his extensive studio complex, Richard MacDonald has control over the quality of his sculpture that hasn’t existed for artists since the early days of the Industrial Revolution. Making sculpture using the ancient “lost-wax’ method is an intense and complex process—part engineering, part science, part industrial, all imaginatively designed to serve the artist’s own creative process.
