When we encounter Richard MacDonald’s sculptures of individual figures we become involved in compositions of complexity and emotional depth—suggestive of the common life experiences of our shared humanity. However, when Richard MacDonald, in the third decade of his life as a sculptor, creates a sculpture of two figures interacting, the emotional volume is amplified, the drama is expanded, and the impact is something we feel with primeval force. Blind Trust is such an experience for the viewer. It is a work that draws on the iconic pieces Blind Faith and Blind Courage, both emblematic of our universal experience of life as a quest of the will that pushes back the eternal uncertainty of our existence.
