Origins
2019
In the bond between man and woman there is a universal sense that two can become one, in mind, body, and spirit, and this connection is the ultimate expression of opposites forming a union that is perfect and complete. Origins is expressive of tenderness and passion, with the intertwined figures conveying a sense of bliss and fulfillment. Organic in its beauty, the bodies of the two are drawn together in a flowing composition that recalls the natural world of all living things—sinuous tree limbs, or the melding of two streams. Human desire culminates in unity, balance, and an unending continuity.
The Artist's Touch
Richard MacDonald’s method of working by directly observing a living model is becoming increasingly rare amongst artists of our time. Developing the sensitivity and facility to watch a person in motion and capture anatomy, movement, mood, and personality in clay is an extraordinarily complex and demanding task, yet the quality of the work speaks to the vitality, energy, and power made possible by this experience.
