In looking back on a quarter of a century of sculpture - both groundbreaking and grounded in history - it is evident that MacDonald has both reshaped our understanding of figurative art and allowed himself to be reshaped by it; he finds and brings to his art growth, examination of the human spirit and experience, and the challenges that enable us to rise above ourselves. The First Twenty-Five Retrospective honors his path thus far and looks forward to the future of figurative art. In MacDonald's own words, "after twenty-five years I feel that I am just beginning."
